Welcome to The Secular Shepherd, a safe space for secular individuals to gather, learn, grow, and share stories.

 

When I was young, I began my journey to a more secular lifestyle by asking tough questions to people I thought had all the answers.  What I found was when you question your reality and societal norms, it can make you feel lonely and withdrawn.  I had so many questions about myself and this new life, but nowhere to turn for answers. 

 

I knew I was not the only one thinking this way, there had to be so many others who felt the way I did, who had questions about what they had been taught their whole lives.  But I was the only one questioning these things within my circle of friends and family.  This ultimately added to my feelings of loneliness.

 

I was not wrong for questioning society, but I was wrong to do so on such a personal level.  To be free of my conditioned shame and personal barriers, I needed to find the strength to stand by my convictions and the ideas I was constructing.  I needed to break free from the constraints of religion and push back against a world that forces people into a metaphorical box of beliefs.  In doing this, I would be better equipped to share my story with the masses.

 

I would only be shunned in the areas of my life where people with strict religious beliefs and thinking thrived.  So, the best thing for myself and my growth as a free-thinking individual was to find more people like myself, and together, create a community that allowed open dialog about the secular lifestyle.

 

So that is why I created The Secular Shepherd, to not only guide fellow secular individuals to a new community filled with news and information tailored to them but to also create a space where atheist, agnostics, and other free-thinkers can come and debate topics about our world.

 

My goal here at The Secular Shepherd is to spread the idea of freedom FROM religion, allowing people around the world the courage to think for themselves and walk away from an antiquated way of life.  And in the process, we can build the foundation of a new secular society that promotes the well-being of ALL people, not just those who adhere to our ideologies.

 

I can assure you that I will always stick to my principals while presenting stories and ideas for you to consider, unveiling a morality to the world that is not backed by a religious doctrine but founded in the idea of justice and common cause.
